- Find the correct term and click “Apply Now”.
- Create an account with Via and begin the application.
Deadlines
Please see the program brochures for specific deadlines.
Required Components of the Application
- Information about you and your academic background
- A short essay
- Recommendations (including a faculty recommendation and a personal/professional recommendation)
- A meeting with the Program Contact (see the program brochure for the name of the Program Contact)
- A valid passport, or evidence that you have applied for a passport.
- If you don't have a passport, we recommend you begin your passport application now! Go to our Resources page for more information.
- Saint Mary's offers a limited number of First Passport Grants. Click here for more information.
Recommendation Info
- We strongly advise you to consult with your recommenders before you send them a request for a recommendation.
- The application will allow you to enter the email addresses of your recommenders and will allow you to send them a request for a recommendation.
- You need one faculty recommendation and one personal or professional recommendation. These two recommenders will be asked to provide a confidential assessment of your ability to study globally. Please note that the personal/professional recommender should not be a family member or peer.
- Recommendations are also required from the Office of Academic Advising and the Office of Student Affairs (Disciplinary Office). On the application, you will be provided with the appropriate email addresses to send the requests for the recommendations.
- We strongly advise that you provide your recommenders with at least two weeks to complete and submit their recommendations.
- Recommendations are due by the application deadline.
Interest in Multiple Programs
We recommend that students submit only one application per study abroad term. The application will ask for alternate programs, so it is not necessary to apply to multiple programs for the same term.
Technical Questions Regarding the Application
Email the specific Program Contact (either Allie Wright at awright1@saintmarys.edu or Suzie Dolembo at sdolembo@saintmarys.edu). You could alternatively email our office at abroad@saintmarys.edu.
Acceptance to the Program
With the exception of certain faculty-led programs, applications are not reviewed by the Global Education Office until the deadline has passed. After that, you can expect to find out within a few weeks. If you have been accepted, you will then be provided with directions for applying directly to the partner institution in the host country.
