Follow the steps below to guide you through your study abroad journey!  

 

Step 1

Review program options and attend information sessions.  

Step 2

Talk to your department and academic advisors about the best time to go abroad for your major.  

Step 3

Start your program application and review program deadlines.  

Step 4

Apply for a passport and talk to your recommenders.  

Step 5

Complete the application before the deadline. 

Step 6

Look into scholarships and grants that are available.  Meet with the Financial Aid Office.  

Step 7

After approval, pay the deposit to commit to the program and apply to your host institution (if applicable).   

Directions will be provided by the Program Contact. 

Step 8

Complete forms in the Study Abroad Portal (Via) and attend Pre-Departure Orientation.  

Step 9

Look into any visa requirements for your program location.  

Step 10

Go abroad and communicate any course changes to the Office of Academic Advising and to your Program Contact.  

Step 11

Check your SMC email while abroad and tag us (@smcstudyabroad) in your posts.  

Step 12

For non-faculty-led programs, have your host university send your transcript to Saint Mary's College.  

Step 13

Upon your return, get involved as a peer advisor, attend career-focused sessions, and participate in the Photo Contest.
