Saint Mary’s Hosts State Department International Women’s Institut...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that it will hold its fourth Global Women Leaders Institute, a U.S. Department of State Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI). This summer’s SUSI welcomes 20 undergraduate women from Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, and Jordan, plus six Saint Mary’s students. The Study of the U.S. Institute is part of a broader State Department initiative to promote a better understanding of the U.S. abroad and help develop future world leaders. The program allows undergraduate women from around the world to improve their leadership skills while learning about the United States.

2015 Commencement Details Announced
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce details of its 168th Commencement, which will take place at noon on Saturday, May 16 on Le Mans Green in front of the iconic Le Mans Hall. The 2015 Commencement speaker is Sister Rosemary Connelly, RSM, executive director of Misericordia Home in Chicago, which provides programs, services, and residential care to more than 600 children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.

Saint Mary’s College Announces Six New Trustees
The Saint Mary’s College Board of Trustees welcomes six new members. Five individuals began their first 3-year terms this summer. They are: Delia Garcia ’93, Michael Schmitt, Mary Pat Seurkamp, Sister Veronique Wiedower ’70, CSC, and Stacy Davis. Davis represents faculty as the faculty trustee. Meanwhile, the board appointed Allison Danhof ’16 as the student trustee for 2015-16.

"Voices" Project in Association of Catholic Colleges & Universities Ne...
Kristen Millar ’15, Grace Urankar ’14, President Carol Ann Mooney, and Bishop Kevin Rhoades traveled to Rome Thanksgiving Week to deliver 225 letters written by Millennial Catholic women to Pope Francis. The Saint Mary’s student project is called Voices of Young Catholic Women. The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities features the project prominently in the winter issue of its newsletter.

Multi-Ethnic Graduation Celebration Plans Announced
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that humorist and storyteller Dawn J. Fraser is the keynote speaker at the 8th annual Multiethnic Commencement Celebration on Thursday, May 14. Fraser will offer the multicultural members of the Class of 2015 her talk titled Beyond the Classroom: Your Story, Your Legacy.

Local Campus Sex Assault Responders React to UVA Rape Report (Fox 28)
Rolling Stone published an article last month about a horrific gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity party. This month the publication said there were inconsistencies in the survivor’s story. Connie Adams, director of the Belles Against Violence Office, was interviewed about the ripple effects of such high profile stories, which can influence some survivors of sexual assault to not come forward.

Auditions: South Bend Chamber Singers
The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS), the region’s premier vocal chamber ensemble, announces auditions for its 27th concert series, 2015-16. Experienced singers from the region should bring a prepared solo and will be tested on sight-reading and aural abilities. Auditions will be held Aug. 30 to Sept. 4 in room 309 of Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College. Please call (574) 284-4632 or (574) 233-6927 to schedule an audition time. Life in Limbo for the Undocumented (WSBT)
Dara Marquez ’15, a dual degree chemistry/engineering student who is from Elkhart (east of South Bend), was interviewed for this story. She offered her thoughts on President Obama’s executive order to allow undocumented immigrants remain in the U.S. without threat of deportation.
