International Program Earns National Ranking It’s International Education Week at Saint Mary’s College! Celebrated this year from November 15-19, International Education Week (IEW) highlights the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Board of Trustees Elects New Members On October 27, Saint Mary’s College welcomed seven new members on the Board of Trustees to campus for the Fall meeting. This is the first time since February 2020 that the Trustees have met in person. Food Justice Through Compost and Recovery Saint Mary’s has been heeding the call for sustainability and food recovery. Since the fall of 2017, the Food Waste Fighters have led the way to compost 39,702 pounds—nearly 20 tons—of food. Upon Reflection Inauguration events brought to mind the "ancestors" of the Office of the President for President Katie Conboy, and Sister M. Madeleva Wolff, CSC, was present to her throughout the week. The Inauguration of Katie Conboy It was a long-awaited celebration, unlike any other in the history of Saint Mary’s College. Following a year of successfully navigating the unpredictable and unprecedented events of a global pandemic, Katie Conboy was installed October 9 as Saint Mary’s 14th president. Improving the World Through Writing Award-winning author Jacqueline Woodson doesn’t have time to engage in activities that don’t change her in a positive way. She calls the practice “unsilencing” herself. An Event of Belonging Off to one side in Rice Commons, a large multipurpose room on the main floor of the Student Center, a small gathering of people waited to take their turn at the podium and officially open the College’s Office for Student Equity and the LGBTQ+ Center. The mood in the room was celebratory, and the audience enthusiastic.
