Rowing Through the Years As we plan our celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX this fall, we recognize the Saint Mary’s women who paved the way for future Belles. College Hosts First of Its Kind Career Fair The Saint Mary’s Career Crossings Office held a virtual career fair in collaboration with nine other women’s colleges and universities across the country—making it the first of its kind. The Women’s College and Universities Diversity Career Expo was held Tuesday, September 27 to help current students land internships, jobs, and post-graduate service opportunities. Theater Group Breaks Bread at Saint Mary’s The circus is coming to Saint Mary’s College! The bold Bread and Puppet Theater is making its way down The Avenue on Saturday, September 24 with a free show titled “The Apocalypse Defiance Circus.” The College welcomes the political theater group through the Margaret Hill Endowed Visiting Artist Series as a way to offer new performing art experiences for students, faculty, and staff. 37 Words That Opened Opportunities for Women Our fall sports are well underway, and President Conboy is reflecting on the history of women in sports and the impact of Title IX. In her monthly letter to the community, Katie writes, “...at Saint Mary’s, our entire purpose—from our founding in 1844—has been to provide access and opportunity for women.” College Receives $1 Million Grant President Katie Conboy recently announced that Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded the College a $1 million grant to enhance and expand on-campus educational summer programs for girls. This grant will modernize the College’s existing programs and introduce numerous new programs in the next three years. Recruitment for the enriched summer programming will focus heavily on girls who could be the first in their families to attend college. With a new academic year is upon us, combined with dozens of forward-thinking projects and positive outcomes, Saint Mary's is a campus on the move. Local Teachers Attend Saint Mary’s Workshop A group of regional educators gathered on campus this week to take a fresh look at the way they teach social studies. Through a grant from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region Program, the College hosted the week-long Learning from Inclusive Sources summer workshop.
