Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves
This might be the first time we have introduced you to the Saint Mary’s College Alumnae Association Board of Directors (AABOD), but you have probably seen our work if you tune into SMCTalks, or have enjoyed Lenten and Advent reflections. The Board led the creation of these programs.
The AABOD was founded in 1879 and leads more than 20,000 members of the Saint Mary’s College Alumnae Association. Each and every alumna of Saint Mary’s is welcomed into the Association upon graduation from the College—whether or not they join a club or participate in any events.
Who We Are
The AABOD includes more than 20 alumnae from across the country, and from all walks of life, Currently there are alumnae from the 1970s through the 2010s working on your behalf. Alumnae are elected to serve as directors on the board for three-year terms. Three officers are elected for two-year terms by the directors. Our official mission is to “provide volunteer leadership for the Alumnae Association by working with the Saint Mary’s College community to design and promote opportunities for alumnae to connect with each other and the College.” And we work diligently throughout the year to fulfill this mission!
Our Work
We are a working board of the College creating and executing programming such as SMCTalks, Spirituality Hours, One Book One Saint Mary’s, organizing Lenten and Advent reflections and panel discussions at Reunion. We also select the winners of the Outstanding Senior Award and the various awards given at Reunion. But this is not all we do.
We also work to grow and sustain the College through recruiting new students, helping with fundraising and working within our communities, while maintaining communication with all of our alumnae—even those without a club or affinity group.
What’s to Come
In coming issues of Courier, we will talk more about our work and welcome suggestions for how we can better serve our alumnae!
