Michelle Alexander to Speak on Negative Impact of Drug Laws (South Ben...
Michelle Alexander, author of “The New Jim Crow," hasn't even arrived on campus yet, but she's already inspired some senior comps. Psychology major Laura Early ’15 found a disproportionate amount of African Americans face harsh sentencing for drug distribution and drug-based offenses. Sociology major Markie Harrison ’15 found the same in fiction, examining racial dynamics in the TV series “Law & Order.”

“Take Back the Night” at Saint Mary's and Notre Dame, Wednesday, A...
The Saint Mary’s College Belles Against Violence Office will once again team up with the University of Notre Dame’s Gender Relations Center to promote national Sexual Assault Awareness Month through their annual Take Back the Night event. The public is invited to attend a series of activities tomorrow evening, April 22, to raise awareness and break the silence surrounding violence and abuse.

Social Work Students Help in Homeless Youth Count (South Bend Tribune)
Social work students are working with the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County to tally up the number of homeless youth. The bureau's Street Outreach seeks anyone between the ages of about 13 and 24 who faces neglect, homelessness or street or family violence, as well as young mothers. In the fall, professor Fran Kominkiewicz's Research Methods class assessed how an accurate population count could be done locally. Two seniors remain on the project.

Saint Mary's College is proud to announce that Samantha Grady ’15, a political science and religious studies double major from Corrales, New Mexico, was honored with the 2015 Lumen Christi Award at Commencement on Saturday, May 16. Three seniors are honored each year as exceptional representatives of their graduating class. As the Valedictorian reflects the mind and the Outstanding Senior embodies the heart of the class, the Lumen Christi Award recipient represents its soul.

Saint Mary’s Presents "The Glass Menagerie," a Student Production
The Saint Mary’s College Department of Communication Studies, Dance, and Theatre is proud to present Tennessee Williams’ “Glass Menagerie” in the Little Theatre at the Moreau Center. Performances will take place Thursday, November 5 through Saturday, November 7 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, November 8 at 2:30 pm. Ticket information is below.

Two Acclaimed Comedy Writers Coming to Saint Mary’s
The Saint Mary’s College Department of English and the Shaheen/Duggan Performing Arts Series welcome television comedy writers Tom Leopold and Bill Persky to the College for a public event on Thursday, September 13. Leopold will present his new one-man show, “A Comedy Writer Finds God” at 7:30 p.m. in Little Theatre of Moreau Center for the Arts. Persky, who wrote the show with Leopold, will introduce him. Persky and Leopold will also hold two master classes with Saint Mary's students.

Three Seniors Selected for Prestigious Two-Year Orr Fellowships
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that for the fourth consecutive year, seniors have been selected as incoming fellows within The Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship. Clare Maher ’15 of South Bend, Samantha Moorhead ’15 of Dunwoody, GA, and Bailey Shrum ’15 of Indianapolis were named as members of the next fellowship class, making this the largest number of Saint Mary’s graduates going into the program at one time. Since 2012, four alumnae have served as fellows, including current fellows Nichole Clayton ’13 and Sara Napierkowski ’14.

Leighton Speech & Language Clinic Dedicated, Graduate Program Announce...
Saint Mary’s College celebrated the establishment of the Judd Leighton Speech and Language Clinic with a dedication and blessing of the space this afternoon. At the dedication, the College announced the new Master of Science in Speech Pathology. Both the clinic and the implementation of the master’s program are thanks to a $1 million grant from the Judd Leighton Foundation, Inc.

Saint Mary's Raises $105 Million in Capital Campaign (South Bend Tribu...
Saint Mary's College raised a total of $105 million in gifts and pledges during its recent capital campaign, the college announced today. Building the college's endowment for student scholarships was a key part of the campaign. It was the largest fundraising effort in the history of the Catholic women's college.
