Alumna Hosts Podcast to Support Mental Wellness A podcast produced by alumna and licensed clinical social worker MJ Murray Vachon ’82 brings her work in support of mental wellness in young adults to new audiences. Alumna Advocates on Behalf of Military Spouses Rachel Torres Bell ’98 crafts communication strategy for a living. Typically, that work has been on behalf of corporate concerns. In recent years, however, Bell has given her time and talents to expanding legislation that would send a powerful and positive message about the value of hiring military spouses in the workforce. Saint Mary’s College Announces Plans for Spring Commencement Saint Mary’s President Katie Conboy has announced noted environmentalist, cartographer, and social entrepreneur Molly Burhans will deliver the Commencement address for the Class of 2023. The 176th Commencement will take place at noon on Saturday, May 20 on Le Mans Green. Their Legacy of Service Two extraordinary alumnae put their skills to work at Habitat for Humanity. NPR Editor Courtney Jamieson Dorning ’90 Returns to SMC Saint Mary’s College welcomed alumna Courtney Jamieson Dorning ’90 back to campus as the 2022 Shannon Scholar. As the senior editor for NPR’s All Things Considered, Dorning is responsible for newsmaker interviews, but while on campus, she was on the other side of the interviews. Celebrating First-Generation Students This week, Saint Mary’s celebrates its first-generation students, faculty, and staff through a series of events, timed to coincide with First Generation College Celebration Day on November 8. Christin Kloski ’15, assistant director of the Office for Student Equity, has helped coordinate the week, and plans to engage the more than 400 undergraduate students at the College. NPR's Courtney Dorning '90 To Meet With Students Courtney Jamieson Dorning ’90 will be at Saint Mary’s November 14 and 15 as part of the Shannon Executive Scholars Program. Dorning has been a senior editor for NPR's All Things Considered since November 2018. In that role, she's the lead editor for the daily show. Dorning is responsible for newsmaker interviews, lead news segments and the small, quirky features that are a hallmark of the network's flagship afternoon magazine program. Saint Mary’s Honors Former Athletes In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Saint Mary’s College welcomed back over 50 former Saint Mary’s and Notre Dame athletes to campus. Both Saint Mary’s and Notre Dame held events all weekend long to honor the women who paved the way for all women’s athletic programs at Notre Dame. 2022 Alumnae Association Honorees On Saturday, June 4, four outstanding alumnae were honored at the 2022 Reunion for their dedication to their profession, faith, and the mission of the College.
