Take action and work for justice
Serve and work for justice locally and globally through community engagement, advocacy, and immersion experiences. Our justice and solidarity initiatives are aimed at the formation of conscience, increasing students’ moral agency, and bringing about transformation in the world.
Ways to Get Involved:
Beyond the Belle - You’ll have the opportunity to serve alongside your peers at one of many local organizations in the South Bend community. Sites include: Darden Elementary, Notre Dame Center for Civic Innovation, La Casa de Amistad, St. Margaret’s House, REAL Services, Our Lady of the Road, and Center for the Homeless.
SMC Votes - Learn how to advocate! We take a four-pronged approach to election engagement by assisting students in voter registration, voter education, voter mobilization (including absentee ballot assistance), and civil discourse.
Food Waste Fighters - Join a team aimed at sustainability in our dining hall. Food Waste Fighters works collaboratively with our Dining Services to compost food and donate leftovers to local organizations in the community.
Care for Creation Team - Come join us at the Sustainable Farm! The Care for Creation team works alongside the campus farmer in planting, weeding, harvesting, and caring for our chickens.
CRS Ambassadors - Build a global perspective as you learn to advocate locally for policies that impact our human family across the world. CRS Ambassadors learn how to raise awareness for social justice issues and work to create change.
Service Break Experiences - You’ll have the opportunity to travel domestically and abroad to immerse yourself in a new community while learning about a particular social justice issue. The program is built upon the pillars of justice, community, solidarity, spirituality, and simplicity.
