There are many scholarships, awards and remission programs available to help pay for your college education - you just have to know where to look. Scholarships do not have to be paid back, and chances are, you may qualify for one type or another. We encourage you to do your research, as the dollars can really add up.
Institutional Merit Scholarships & Awards
Saint Mary's College is committed to making it possible for qualified students to enroll regardless of financial circumstances. As part of this commitment, Saint Mary's offers various levels of academic merit scholarships and need-based scholarships, to all undergraduate students, including international students.
Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange Programs
Saint Mary’s participates in a variety of tuition exchange and remission programs:
- Saint Mary’s is a member of three tuition exchange programs: the CCCTE (Catholic Colleges Cooperative Tuition Exchange), the CICTEP (Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange Program) and Tuition Exchange Inc.
- Tuition remission benefits are available for qualified employees from Saint Mary’s and Notre Dame
- A tuition discount is available for families who have more than one dependent enrolled full-time as undergraduate students at Saint Mary's at the same time
- Room remission is available for students who are employed as Resident Advisors
You can learn more about all these programs here.
ROTC Scholarships
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) awards are determined by each branch of the military who opens the programs to Saint Mary’s students. These are based on a national competition that may begin as early as your junior year in high school. In some cases, currently enrolled college students may also apply for these funds through the spring semester of sophomore year.
Outside Scholarships
We understand that funding your education is an investment, and as such, it’s important to use as many resources as possible. While it will be a daunting task to provide information for each and every scholarship in the country, we have selected a few search engines and resources that could help you on your search for outside scholarships.
Outside Scholarships are considered need-based and your original aid offer from Saint Mary’s College may need to be adjusted if all need-based assistance exceeds your financial aid eligibility, or the total of all tuition-specific awards exceeds the cost of tuition, or the value of all awards exceeds the total cost of attendance. If it is necessary to adjust your aid, we will first reduce the aid that is least beneficial to you (e.g., loans first).
A note about outside scholarships and varsity athletics: Per NCAA Division III regulations, students who intend on playing varsity sports at Saint Mary’s are precluded from receiving any scholarships based on athletic participation, ability or leadership in any sport which is also an NCAA sport. Varsity athletes should check with the Financial Aid Office regarding any outside scholarships or awards to ensure the terms of the scholarship will not interfere with the student’s ability to participate in varsity athletics.
