CHICAGO, Ill. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team split results on Friday night at day one of the North Park Invitational with the Belles falling 3-1 against the host Vikings before sweeping Defiance.
In the opener, the Belles took the opening set 25-21 before falling in tight sets by 25-23, 25-22, and 30-28 scores against host North Park. Nicole Lukens registered a double-double with a match-high 22 kills along with 21 digs. Morgan VanderWey also posted a double-double with 46 assists and 12 digs. Alyssa Chong put down 11 kills and three blocks, and Lindsey Pelletier added nine kills, five digs, and three blocks. Audrey Shannon led all players with 27 digs, and Laura Keating registered 13 digs and eight kills.
In the nightcap, Lukens added a second double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs in a 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of the Yellow Jackets. Lindsey Pelletier recorded a career-high 15 kills and hit .609 (15 kills, one error, 23 attempts) in the win. Morgan VanderWey collected 40 assists and eight digs, and Audrey Shannon led the Belles with 14 digs.
The Belles (6-7) compete in day two of the North Park Invitational on Saturday when they square off against Central (Iowa) at 2:00 p.m. CDT and Benedictine at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
