Belles Compete at Day One of ITA Regional
- Monica Davy earned an opening-round singles win before falling in the round of 64.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team opened up day one of the ITA Regional tournament at Kalamazoo on a rainy Friday.
Meaghan Flynn and Kelsey Kopf earned an 8-5 doubles win against ninth-seeded Adrienne D'Alweyn and Casey O'Toole of Ohio Wesleyan in the round of 64 and will compete on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. against a pairing from Case Western. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad fell in a tight 9-8 (0) doubles match against third-seeded Kendal Holladay and Jessica Liu from Case Western. The pair have a consolation bracket match at noon on Saturday. Abbi Fleming and Kaity Venters were edged out 8-6 in their opening round doubles match by Anna Asfour and Claire Spoelhof from Calvin.The duo compete again on Saturday in the consolation bracket at noon.
In singles competition, Fleming fell 6-0, 6-1 against Veronica Clark from Wooster. She competes in the consolation side of the singles bracket at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Flynn ended on the short side of a 6-3, 6-1 final against Jennifer Stroyne from John Carroll and will take to the court at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Kelsey Kopf was downed by fifth-seeded Nancy Benda from Hope in a 6-0, 6-0 final. The junior has a consolation singles match at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monica Davy battled her way to a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) win in her opening match against Mackenzie Wills from Ohio Northern before bowing out of singles competition with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to 17th-seeded Sabrina Dass from Kalamazoo.
Play resumes early on Saturday and runs all day at Kalamazoo College, the Portage YMCA, West Hills Athletic Club, and Kalamazoo YMCA tennis courts.
