FREELAND, Mich. - Saint Mary's seniors Cassie Young and Morgan Raymer swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Position Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades for their efforts from March 12-18.
Young, a native of South Bend, Indiana, had a .500 batting average and a .643 slugging percentage in eight games. The senior center fielder had at least one hit in each of those eight contests, including five multiple hit efforts. In a win over Benedictine, she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in, a stolen base, and scored three runs. It is the fifth MIAA Position Player of the Week honor of her career.
Raymer, a native of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, went 4-0 in the circle with a saves in six pitching appearances. The senior allowed just two earned runs in 32 innings of work for a 0.44 earned run average while striking out 25 batters. In her lone plate appearance of the week, she drove in the game-winning run with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly against Southern Maine. It is the third MIAA Pitcher of the Week accolade of her career.
It is the second time the pair have swept MIAA Softball Player of the Week honors. The first instance came last spring on April 10.
