Last-Second Heroics Help Belles to Draw

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Ashley Morfin tapped in a corner kick by Maddie Meckes with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime before the Saint Mary's soccer team tied Calvin 1-1 on Saturday.

In a scoreless contest, Calvin broke the deadlock just past the 79 minute mark of the game. The Knights scored on a header off of a corner kick.

Calvin looked to have the win in the bag until the Belles struck in the final seconds of regulation to force extra time.

Riding the momentum from tying the game late, Saint Mary's Jordan Diffenderfer put a shot on goal in the first 12 seconds of overtime only to see it turned away. The Belles kept the Knights from netting the game-winner with a save in the first overtime and two more saves in the second overtime. Mollie Valencia put another shot on goal for Saint Mary's in the second overtime period, but the teams would play to the 1-1 double overtime tie.

For Ashley Morfin, the goal is her seventh of the season. Maddie Meckes picked up her second assist of the 2012 campaign. Chanler Rosenbaum tallied eight saves in goal for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (11-3-2, 8-3-1 MIAA) will host Alma on Tuesday, October 23 for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Scots.
