Belles Prepare to Leave on #SMCpopebus for Philadelphia (WNDU-TV)
Thanks to some hard preparation work on the part of the Division for Mission, about 50 Saint Mary's Belles and some staff are headed to Philadelphia Friday night to see Pope Francis during his historic trip to the U.S. Despite homework, studying for tests, and other obligations, the students say it was an opportunity they just couldn't pass up. "I'm just excited to see him and see how he changes me for the better and how he changes everybody that's there for the better," Hannah Wozniak '19 told WNDU-TV. Haley Coghlan '19 and Dalia Rodriguez '17 were also interviewed.

Social Work Students to Host Panel Talk on Veterans
The Saint Mary’s College Department of Social Work and Gerontology will host a panel discussion entitled “The Battle after the War: Veterans on their Lives and Struggles” on Tuesday, March 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Carroll Auditorium, Madeleva Hall. Members of the community are invited to join students, faculty, and staff from Saint Mary’s College for this free and informative event.

“A Team of Their Own” to Premiere at Saint Mary's
Saint Mary’s College is proud to host the South Bend premiere of the documentary “A Team of Their Own,” on Monday, October 26, at 7 p.m. in Carroll Auditorium, Madeleva Hall. The Department of Athletics, the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies, and the Office of Campus and Community Events will host the event.The documentary features the history of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), including the South Bend Blue Sox, during and after World War II, 1943-1954. The film explores the women’s lives while they traveled and played ball across the country. The event is free and open to the general public.

South Bend Chamber Singers to Perform “Radiant Russian”
The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS) will be perform their concert entitled Radiant Russian on Sunday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto on the Saint Mary’s campus. Nancy Menk, professor of music and director of choral activities at Saint Mary’s College, will conduct. There will also be a pre-concert lecture entitled “The World of Sacred Russian Music” given by Mark Roosien, a Ph.D. student in Liturgical Studies at the University of Notre Dame, at 6:30 p.m. in the church.

Students Plan Brunch for Cancer Patients/Survivors
Students in the Saint Mary’s College Stands Up To Cancer Club will host its 4th annual “Don’t Stop Believin’” event with a brunch on Sunday, March 1 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Stapleton Lounge in Le Mans Hall. The brunch will celebrate the lives of local people affected by cancer. Anyone on campus or in Michiana impacted by cancer, including patients, survivors, families, caretakers, and nurses, are invited to this free event, but must RSVP to club president Christina Hutch ’15 by Friday, February 20 via email, chutch01@saintmarys.edu, or phone, (330) 720-5813.

10th Annual Christian Culture Lecture to Feature Philosopher Martha C....
Saint Mary’s College’s Department of Humanistic Studies is proud to present the 10th annual Christian Culture Lecture. This year’s speaker is world-renowned, award-winning philosopher Martha C. Nussbaum. The University of Chicago professor of philosophy and law will present her lecture, titled “Anger and Revolutionary Justice,” on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Laughlin Auditorium with a book signing and reception to follow.

Saint Mary’s College Recognizes Five Professors with Prestigious Fac...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to recognize five professors with prestigious faculty awards for demonstrated excellence inside and outside of the classroom and dedication to students and their profession. The Academic Affairs Council, chaired by Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney and made up of administrators, faculty, and staff, votes on the most deserving recipients after reading through nominations. The vote results are kept secret until the honors are bestowed. Professors Belanger, Davis, Pierce, Kominkiewicz, and Latham were honored.

Hypatia Day, Math & Science Day, Planned for Middle School Girls
Middle school girls will be on the Saint Mary’s College campus on Saturday, February 21, for Hypatia Day. The students will have the opportunity to shadow and learn from Saint Mary’s women majoring in subjects like computer science, math, chemistry, engineering, nursing, and biology. Hypatia is pronounced “hi-pay-sha.” The day is named after the first known female mathematician and scientist by that name who was born in 370 A.D. Hypatia Day is unique to Saint Mary’s College and was started in 1991 to encourage young girls to discover the fun of subjects such as math and science. The deadline for registration is February 7.

Notre Dame Guarantees Saint Mary’s Students Four Seats in Master of ...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce a new partnership with the University of Notre Dame that offers Saint Mary’s non-business majors the opportunity to be admitted into the university’s prestigious Master of Science in Management (MSM) program in the Mendoza College of Business. According to an articulation agreement reached between the institutions, Notre Dame will guarantee seats each academic year to four qualified Saint Mary’s students.
