Social work students are working with the Youth Service Bureau to account for the number of homeless youth in St. Joseph County. The bureau's Street Outreach seeks anyone between the ages of about 13 and 24 who faces neglect, homelessness or street or family violence, as well as young mothers. In the fall, professor Fran Kominkiewicz's Research Methods class assessed how to execute an accurate population count. The class is mentioned at the end of this in depth story. That danger is one reason that Saint Mary's has the Belles Against Violence Office. BAVO educates on all forms of violence against women, including intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
