This theory has been all over the news following the shootings in Tuscon that left six dead and 14 wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D). The rhetoric on the 24/7 media cycle has been intense the past few years and some say it could incite violence. Communications professor Michael Kramer, whose expertise is political communication, talks about how historically public discourse is more intense in times of social change. He also discusses whether such rhetoric is what the founding fathers had in mind when they included freedom of speech in the Constitution.
