Christian Culture Lecture presents Margaret Atwood, bestelling author of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

August 29, 2017 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — The Saint Mary’s College Department of Humanistic Studies is proud to announce that bestselling author Margaret Atwood will deliver this year’s Christian Culture Lecture. Atwood will present “The Handmaid’s Tale: The Sources” on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Laughlin Auditorium. 

Margaret Atwood, Christian Culture lecturer 2017The Handmaid’s Tale, originally published in 1985, has recently regained the spotlight since it has been adapted as a Hulu series, in which Atwood herself makes a cameo appearance in episode 1. Atwood will share her inspiration for the novel and the timeliness of the story. Atwood is the author of more than 40 books of fiction, poetry and critical essays.

Laura Williamson Ambrose, chair of the department of humanistic studies, said Saint Mary’s is honored to host Margaret Atwood on campus to meet with students and present a lecture to the community.

“The campus is abuzz with excitement over Margaret Atwood’s visit. Her novels and other works have been mainstays in our classrooms for decades, and it is thrilling to have an opportunity to hear from her in person,” Williamson Ambrose said.
