Sister Raymond Mary (Sullivan)

Sister Raymond Maryn (Sullivan), CSC

 (April 23, 1930 - February 6, 2010)

Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on February 6, 2010 in Saint Mary's Convent.

Sister Raymond Mary, fondly known as Rayme, was a kind, generous, caring person who was constantly reaching out to others. Hospitality was important to her.  She was very thoughtful and rarely missed sending sisters feast or birthday cards on their special days.  Another way to describe her is jolly and fun loving, a person who enjoyed life.  She had a great sense of humor, which was infectious. For many years she collected frogs and was fond of one she kept in her room that moves and sings.

Her ministries were varied.  The first 18 years of her years of service were in elementary education as a teacher and principal in the West.  In 1971, she was asked to be on the congregation's Corporate Renewal Team where she got to know many of the sisters around the country.  She served on the Western Regional Council and was first assistant to Sister Francis B. O'Connor in general administration.

Sister Raymond Mary also directed the volunteers at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and after her time on the General Council, served as Vice President of Mission Services at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California.  From Fresno she went to Saint Catherine by the Sea in 1997 to be assistant administrator to Sister Patricia Ann Thompson.  In 1999, she returned to Saint Mary's where she participated in the congregation's ministry of prayer.

Family was very important to her and she loved her many nieces and nephews.  She was close to her sister, Sister Gertrude, who preceded her in death.  When her other sister, Kateri, came faithfully to visit her in the last years of her life, she would perk up and show her beautiful smile.

Her deep faith and hope saw her through some difficult times.  She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother who said yes to God. Sister Raymond Mary now enjoys the company of Mary and the saints and is reunited with her loved ones.  May she rest in peace.
