Sister Margaret O'Connell

Sister Margaret O'Connell, CSC

 (January 22, 1913 - March 31, 2010)

Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on March 31 , 2010 in Saint Mary's Convent.

The first 25 years of Sister Margaret’s ministry were in ancillary services devoted to serving the needs of others. She became famous for the manner in which she took care of the resident chaplains in her various missions in the East. No priest could have received a better meal presented in a nicer way than what sister served. She knew how to make a fuss over each one of them and soon learned their likes and dislikes. Her cuisine always suited their tastes and they appreciated her special care for them.

During those years of service she continued in her efforts to finish her classes for her college degree. It was a triumph for her to receive her degree from Dunbarton College, Washington, D.C., in 1970.

The years following this accomplishment were spent teaching in the primary grades of various parish schools, which were then followed by her involvement in catechetical work in New Mexico. Sister Margaret’s final years of ministry were spent as a devoted teacher’s aide in both the first and second grades, where the teachers were grateful for her attention to detail and her willingness to tutor students who needed extra help. She was missed in this role when because of health needs she retired to Saint Mary’s Convent in 1996.

May Sister Margaret rest in peace.
