Sister Deborah Murphy, CSC
(December 16, 1919 - October 20, 2008)
Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on October 20, 2008.
Sister Deborah entered the congregation in 1938, made her initial profession in February 1941, and immediately began her teaching ministry at Saint Angela Academy in Morris, Illinois. She taught for 50 years in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana, and for most of that time she taught first and second grades. Sister Deborah considered teaching "the little ones" her greatest accomplishment. She loved each of them and never had a discipline problem, even with 50 students in a class. She attributed her great success to trust in God.
After celebrating her golden jubilee, Sister Deborah ministered as a school librarian. In August 1999 she came to reside at Saint Mary's Convent.
Sister Deborah loved to be with people and to help people in whatever way she could. Her best friend was Sister Rita Dolores (Carr). They went to elementary and high schools together, entered the community together, and remained friends throughout the years. The last few years they played rummy cube and worked jigsaw puzzles together.
Reception of the body and wake on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. with the Mass of the Resurrection on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. All of these ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto. May she rest in peace.
