Sister Margaret Denyse (Harrington), CSC
( - December 16, 2008)
Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on December 16, 2008.
Sister Margaret Denyse was a remarkable religious with a very outgoing personality. She loved people. For a little over 10 years she taught in elementary schools and then began 30 fruitful years ministering in the high schools of the West as a dynamic language teacher of Latin, French and Spanish. Her students loved her.
When she retired from teaching she entered whole-heartedly into a new ministry, that of visiting the sick. For 15 years she dedicated herself to bringing news and good cheer to the sisters in Saint Mary's Convent. Whether it was reading to them or regaling them with stories about her brother, John, as a missionary in Bangladesh, her visits were a welcome
distraction to the sick.
A focal point in Sister's life was her devotion to her brother, Father John Harrington, CSC. She was eager to spark interest in the Bengal missions of Holy Cross because of her support for all missionaries but particularly of Father John who labored there for over 25 years. His zeal, even from a continent away, was infectious and Sister Margaret Denyse definitely caught the "disease." She followed his experiences in every detail and shared them all with the sisters. She was very proud of his outstanding accomplishments and she, herself, became a missionary or sorts, a missionary of prayer, modeling for everyone her own devotion to prayer, especially for all religious serving in what she called, "the
far off missions."
Sister Margaret Denyse's zeal is now rewarded as she joins Father John and her other family members as together they rejoice in the Lord.
Funeral arrangements for Sister are as follows: Reception of the body at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008, with the Mass of Resurrection with eulogy at 10:30 the same day. These ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto. May Sister Margaret Denyse rest in peace.
