Sister Marian Joseph Cain, CSC

( - June 6, 2009)

Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on June 6, 2009 in Saint Mary's Convent.

Sister Marian Joseph was small of stature but mighty in energy. She was a Holy Cross product from boarding school kindergarten at the Academy of Holy Cross through high school. She loved being with the sisters and considered Sister Leonarda, her dear friend, a second mother.

Because of her boundless energy, she took on multiple tasks wherever she was assigned. Giving music lessons, taking charge of the school choir and being a classroom teacher didn't phase her. Nothing was too challenging for her and she accepted these challenges with a bubbly joy and inner strength.

As early as 1973 she became one of those in the forefront of computer education. Her students caught her enthusiasm for technology and were as eager to learn computer skills as she was to teach them.

Even in retirement at Saint Angela's Hall in Kensington, Maryland, she taught many of the retired sisters there to use computers. She was the essence of patience when the technology became a stumbling block for some who came back over and over for help. This was probably the result of the patience she learned teaching piano lessons to elementary school children. Who does not remember the Saturday morning lessons in the convent with the tiny tots playing the same little tunes over and over? Some might call this heroic virtue but it was a part of the life Sister lived with joy.

Funeral arrangements for Sister Marian Joseph are as follows: Reception of the body at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9,2009, with the Mass of Resurrection and eulogy at 1:30 p.m. the same day. All of these ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto.

May Sister Marian Joseph rest in peace.
