FAIRFAX, Va. - Saint Mary's senior Liana O'Grady was recognized by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as a 2018 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar for her dedication to both academics and athletics.
In order to be considered for the recognition, minority student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale through the fall term, be at least a sophomore, have been an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the 2017-18 academic year, and have a demonstrated record of service to the campus or community.
O'Grady was a four-year member of the Belles lacrosse program and was one of just 23 women's lacrosse student-athletes from across the country to earn the academic distinction in 2018. In addition to lacrosse, she has studied abroad in Rome and has been involved with the Student Diversity Board, Spoon University Marketing Team, Big Sisters’ mentoring program, lacrosse leadership council, Game for a Cause committee, and she has served as a Her Campus writer.
According to their website, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field.
