HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's golf team posted a score of 361 in their first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Golf Championships in Florida. The score puts the Belles in 19th place overall.
Claremont Mudd Scripps and Williams are tied atop the leaderboard after matching scores of 311. Carleton, New York University, and Carnegie Mellon, meanwhile, are tied for third with scores of 321. The Belles sit just three strokes behind Wartburg and 11 strokes behind Wisconsin-Whitewater heading into day two. Carnegie Mellon's Charlotte Simpson is the early front runner for individual medalist honors after leading the field with an even-par 73.
Taylor Kehoe led the Belles with an 85 on Tuesday to tie for 65th. She had nine pars on the day and shot just five over par on the back nine. The junior sunk a birdie on the par five 14th hole and posted just two holes over a bogey in the round. Hunter Kehoe shot an 87 on day one to hold a share of 76th. She had eight pars in her round while posting a birdie on the par three second hole.
Summer Stillson shot a 93 to finish tied for 101st. The freshman had six pars on the day with a birdie on the par three hole eight. Courtney Quinlan posted a 96 on Tuesday to hold a share of 112th place overall. She carded pars on seven holes in her round and did not have higher than a double bogey on the back nine. Kelsey Conkright turned in a score of 106 to finish 127th on the day as the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup. She had pars on both hole 12 and hole 15.
The Belles, who were part of the afternoon group on Tuesday, will tee off starting in the morning on Wednesday as the look to move up in the team standings.
