Belles Show Strong Effort at Inter-Regional Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Saint Mary's cross country team took 17th place in a field of 26 teams at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday morning.

No. 9 regionally-ranked host Oberlin won the event with a team score of 77. Case Western, who is ranked fifth regionally, was second with a score of 86. Baldwin Wallace, who is ranked sixth regionally, was third after tallying 115 points. The Belles had a team score of 442 and were 16 points behind Penn State-Behrend in the team standings.

Adele Edmonds led the Belles as the top Saint Mary's finisher with a time of 23:49.2 - nearly matching her 6k personal record set at the same race last fall - for 61st place overall and 57 points. Katie Glenn was not far behind as the junior posted a 23:58.0 for a new 6k personal record time. The new PR is a 42 second improvement upon her previous 6k PR and placed Glenn 70th overall while garnering 64 points to the team total.

Sarah Allen ran a 24:16.5 to record a new 6k PR while placing 87th overall and earning 79 points. The PR time is 29 seconds faster than her previous-best 6k time of 24:45.2 at the Benedictine race in 2015. Riley Swope turned in a 25:26.2 to finish in 147th place overall and garner 119 points. Brigid Conmy was the fifth Belle across the finish line with a 25:35.6 for 157th place and 123 points.

Gabby Russell was just three seconds behind Conmy as the freshman ran a 25:38.7 to place 161st. Emily Blank crossed the finish line in 26:12.9 for 195th. Shanan Hamilton posted a 26:48.8 for 227th, and Maura Honan was 239th with a 27:02.3. Emily Harrast ran a 27:14.9 for 246th while Claudia Stiglitz crossed the line 266th with a 27:51.5.

The Belles are off from competition next week and get back to racing on Saturday, October 27 at the MIAA Championships hosted by Kalamazoo.
