Belles Take Eighth at Grizzly Invite

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team opened the 2018 campaign with an eighth place finish at the Franklin Grizzly Invite on Saturday morning.
Mount Union, who is ranked sixth regionally in the Great Lakes Region, edged out No. 35 nationally-ranked Oberlin 60 to 74 as the pair finished first and second, respectively. Fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member Albion was third with a team score of 83. The Belles came in eighth place in the field of 11 teams with a score of 169.
Katie Glenn was the first Belle across the finish line as the junior placed 20th overall with a time of 25:57.9 in the 6k event. Adele Edmonds was not far behind as the senior placed 25th with a 26:10.3. Brigid Conmy was 39th overall and picked up 37 points toward the team score with a 26:51.2 in her collegiate debut.
Classmate Riley Swope was a few seconds back of Conmy as she crossed the finish line in 26:59.2 for 46th place overall and 42 points. Gabby Russell turned in a 27:44.1 for 57th place and 45 points as the freshman capped off the official team score. Shanan Hamilton posted a 27:57.1 to finish 63rd while Claudia Stiglitz finished 79th with a 28:35.1 on the day.
Emily Blank ran a 28:55.6 for 90th place, and Sarah Allen had a time of 29:49.4 for 97th. Emily Harrast turned in a 30:23.2 (101st), Michaela Barry ran a 31:49.3 (108th), and Maura Honan posted a 32:20.8 (109th) to round out the Saint Mary's efforts at the race.
The Belles are back in action on Saturday, September 8 when they compete at the Calvin Knight Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
