Working To Support Our Students
At Saint Mary’s College, we continually work to pursue scholarships funds that remove barriers for students in the pursuit of a degree. For those focused on STEM related fields, we recognize that women are drastically underrepresented, and at the same time, bring intellectual capacity and a unique perspective to the sciences, mathematics, and engineering professions. With a 175-year history of empowering women to excel and lead in their chosen fields, we know how important it is to help create opportunities in order to advance their STEM studies and launch their successful careers.
In 1989, a bequest by Clare Boothe Luce created the Clare Boothe Luce Program, which has been one of the most significant sources of support nationally for women seeking to study or teach chemistry, physics, engineering, and mathematics. As of 2013, the Clare Boothe Luce Program had awarded over $180 million in grants to more than 190 US colleges and universities to support over 2,300 women. The Clare Boothe Luce Program offers awards for scholarships, undergraduate research, fellowships, and assistant/associate professorships. Saint Mary's College has received support for Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Scholarship grants for the 2005–09 and 2012–16 grant cycles. A total of eight Saint Mary's College students benefited from this support. Their on-going careers inspire students to pursue a degree in the STEM fields.
