Her Story
Agnes was the first degree recipient, a Bachelor of Letters in English in 1898. She took classes in philosophy, math, French, Greek, Latin, and wrote her thesis on pedagogy. Later she earned a BS from South Dakota University and a MA from the University of Michigan. She is not only the earliest graduate of Saint Mary's but boldy upheld our core value of Learning with the acceptance of the pivotal role in higher education of women which was begun by the sisters.
The November 1896 issue of Chimes printed a sample of some her poetry.
