Belles Prevail Against Cougars

• Kelsey Kopf and Lily Brandt won 8-1 at three doubles.
• Elizabeth Preister, Maddie Minaudo, Kopf, and Megan Davy won in order to clinch the team win.
• Lilly Chamberlin added a five singles victory.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team claimed a tight 6-3 win over Spring Arbor on Thursday evening.

Kelsey Kopf and Lily Brandt were the first pair off the courts as they took an 8-1 win at three doubles for the Belles. Maddie Minaudo and Lilly Chamberlin suffered an 8-3 setback at two doubles. Megan Davy and Monica Davy had a back-and-forth match at one doubles before ultimately coming up shy in an 8-4 final.

The Belles quickly turned the deficit into a lead in singles play. Elizabeth Preister won a speedy 6-2, 6-0 six singles match, and Maddie Minaudo dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 four singles win to put Saint Mary's ahead 3-2. Kelsey Kopf staved off her opponent in a 7-5, 7-5 victory at three singles. Just moments later, Megan Davy clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at two singles. Monica Davy had a hard-fought match at one singles in which the junior came back from a 4-3 deficit to take a 6-4 opening set win before falling 6-0, 6-4 in the next two sets. Lilly Chamberlin wrapped up the 6-3 margin of victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at the five singles flight.

Preister and Nicole Becker picked up an 8-1 exhibition doubles win while Becker and Brandt both won at exhibition singles.

The Belles (5-3) travel to Illinois on Saturday for a 9:30 a.m. CDT match against Wheaton.
