Belles Compete at First Day of Winter Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a field of highly-competitive Division II, Division III, and NAIA schools, the Saint Mary's swim team had a respectable showing at the first day of the Calvin Winter Invitational on Thursday.

Division II powerhouse Grand Valley State is in first place followed by the host Knights. Saint Mary's is currently in ninth place after just two women's events.

Megan Price, Sarah Thompson, Katie Donovan, and Audrey Dalrymple shaved a second-and-a-half off their seeded time to finish 16th in the 800 free relay in a time of 8:26.89.

In the 1650 freestyle, Megan Price and Liz Palmer both took time off their previous best performances in the event. Price narrowly missed out on a top-five all-time performance after cutting 28 seconds to finish 17th in a time of 18:45.07. Palmer improved her time in the 1650 by eight seconds to finish 27th in 19:40.94.

The three-day event continues tomorrow morning with the preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Calvin's Venema Aquatic Center.
