According to the article, the face of hunger in America is changing. It’s a little more ex-middle class, a little more desperate and there are a lot more mouths to feed, people who run the nation's food banks say. “The emptying of food banks is another indicator of the depth of the recession and its long term impacts,” says economics professor Jerry McElroy.

On Sunday, October 9, the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Club at Saint Mary's College will host its inaugural Belles for Boobies 5K walk/run to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, an organization dedicated to research and support for breast cancer.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Saint Mary’s setter Danie Brink its Specialty Player of the Week for matches played through September 24.

Outstanding Senior Award Recipient Announced
Every year the Saint Mary's College Alumnae Association Board of Directors presents the Outstanding Senior Award to a member of the senior class who exemplifies the spirit and values of the College. The Board chooses the recipient from nominees submitted by students, faculty and staff. The recipient is known as someone who carries out the beliefs of her faith in daily living and is distinguished by scholarship, leadership, and outstanding dedication to Saint Mary’s—as demonstrated through participation in both curricular and extracurricular activities. As the valedictorian represents the mind, and the Lumen Christi Award recipient reflects the soul, the Outstanding Senior embodies the heart of Saint Mary’s.

Speaker to Discuss Discerning a Business Career with Focus on Communit...
The Cross Currents Program and Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative at Saint Mary’s College is proud to welcome Isaac Torres, founder and president of Intercambio Express, for his talk titled “Filling a Need and Providing a Service.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1 in Vander Vennet Theatre.

'Toys' Exhibit to Display Handcrafted Toys (The Observer)
The lobby of the Cushwa-Leighton Library at Saint Mary's College will soon look a bit like Santa’s workshop. The handcrafted wooden toy collection of South Bend toymaker George Efta will be on display from December 6 through January 31. The exhibit is simply called “Toys”. Efta is married to Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney.
