Once again U.S. News ranks Saint Mary's College among the top 100 “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges.” Saint Mary's comes in at 87, up from 90 last year. The College’s position has progressively increased over the past five years.

College Sponsors House for Rebuilding Together
January 1, 2012
On Saturday, April 21, Saint Mary's College students, faculty, and staff will roll up their sleeves to participate in Rebuilding Together, a community-driven effort to rehabilitate homes in South Bend. It’s the eighth year the College has been involved. Saint Mary’s volunteers will complete basic household tasks, such as painting, cleaning and planting at a Saint Mary’s sponsored home.

Fire Quickly Contained in Moreau Center for the Arts
January 1, 2012
Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at Saint Mary’s College that occurred early this morning in the basement of Moreau Center for the Arts in a set storage area. No one was hurt. The fire alarm went off at 12:55 a.m. and Saint Mary’s College Security used fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading. Within a few minutes, crews from the University of Notre Dame Fire Department, the South Bend Fire Department, and Clay Fire Territory responded, which is standard procedure. The fire was contained quickly, but firefighters remained at the scene for a couple of hours to clear the area of smoke so they could investigate the cause.

2012 Distinguished Alumna Award Recipient Announced

The Distinguished Alumna Award, awarded annually by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary’s College, honors a woman who exemplifies the standards, ideals, and mission of the College and who has given outstanding service through ongoing work for the Alumnae Association. The award is the association's highest recognition. The 2012 recipient is Kathleen (Kitty) Plunkett Freidheim ’67 of Chicago. She received the Distinguished Alumna Award at the Reunion Banquet Saturday, June 2 as part of Reunion Weekend, May 31-June 3

The Alumna Achievement Award, awarded annually by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary’s College, honors an alumna who is outstanding in her personal and professional accomplishments and is a recognized leader in her field of endeavor. The honoree exemplifies the standards, ideals, and mission of the College in its commitment to the value of a Christian liberal arts education. This year’s recipient is Margaret (Peggy) Perkinson ’72 of Saint Louis. She received the Alumna Achievement Award at the Reunion Banquet Saturday, June 2 as part of Reunion Weekend, May 31-June 3.

2012 Humanitas Award Recipient Announced

The Humanitas Award, awarded annually by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary’s College, recognizes an alumna who is outstanding in her personal and volunteer accomplishments and is recognized for her concern for the interests and welfare of her fellow human beings. Her actions exemplify the qualities of personal dedication, compassion, selflessness and sacrifice through social action, education, and reform within the community, the church and the world. The 2012 recipient is Margaret Ann Monahan ’87 of Chicago who is recognized for her compassionate spirit and her unwavering commitment to justice and healing for abused children.

The Outstanding Young Alumna Award honors an alumna who, within 15 years of graduation, exhibits leadership not only in her personal and professional accomplishments, but also in her involvement with the Alumnae Association or the College directly.
