January 2, 2014 Saint Mary’s College and the Department of Humanistic Studies proudly announce that Reza Aslan is the 2014 Christian Culture Lecture speaker. Political Science Professor on State of the Union (WSBT Radio) January 2, 2014 Political science professor Sean Savage, a political analyst for WSBT radio, offers his critique of President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address on Tuesday. Savage called it a modest speech, though noting that the president introduced plans to sign executive orders to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers and to create a new savings program for workers whose employers don't offer retirement plans. Signing the executive orders means the president doesn't need to go to Congress for approval.

Social Work Students Work with Bureau to Count Homeless Youth (Observe... January 1, 2014 Seniors in one of social work professor Frances Kominkiewicz’s course will assist the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County in its research concerning the best possible way to determine the number of homeless youths in the South Bend area. “If we are unable to effectively locate the homeless youth, we will be unable to determine their specific needs and then work at meeting those needs,” Kominkiewicz said.

International Education/Modern Languages Week 2024 Plans Announced January 1, 2014 The Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) and the Department of Modern Languages at Saint Mary’s College will host International Education/Modern Languages Week starting on Monday, November 17. The public is invited to attend the events, which include the sharing of study abroad experiences, a showcase of world traditions and cultures, an international panel on the April 2014 democratic election in India, and an offering of foreign films.

College's "Status of Girls in Indiana" Report Used as Resource (South ... January 1, 2014 When Saint Mary's College debuted the "Status of Girls in Indiana" report, President Carol Ann Mooney said at news conferences that she hoped it would be used by non-profits and legislators as a resource to make a difference for the state's girls. The YWCA used the report's startling statistics on sexual assaults and dating violence to secure a Verizon grant to expand the agency's Teen Dating and Sexual Violence Prevention Program.
