Professor/Interim Associate Dean of Faculty Honored with Spes Unica Aw... January 2, 2014 Saint Mary’s College Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Fleming presented Julie Storme, professor of modern languages and interim associate dean of faculty, with the Spes Unica Award at Honors Convocation on Sunday, May 4. The recipient of the award is kept secret until the Commencement-related event. The Spes Unica Award recognizes a faculty member’s eminent service to Saint Mary’s College. Contributions can be in the area of teaching, scholarship/ creative activity and/or service. Storme has been at the College for 28 years.

Change in Vatican's Tone, Says Religious Studies Professor (WSBT-TV) January 2, 2014 The Vatican released the midterm progress report from the Synod of Bishop on Monday. The document says same-sex couples have "gifts to offer the Christian community." Some saw this as a major shift for the Church. “What the real news was, was not what it said, but the tone in which it took,” said Joseph Incandela, a professor of religious studies at Saint Mary’s College.

Two Seniors Selected for Prestigious Orr Fellowships January 2, 2014 Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that for the third consecutive year Saint Mary’s seniors have been named Orr Fellows. Annie Kennedy ’14 of Gainesville, Fla. and Sara Napierkowski ’14 of Bethlehem, Pa. were recently announced as incoming fellows. Previous Orr Fellows from Saint Mary’s include Nichole Clayton ’13, Amanda Lester ’12 and Melissa Jackson ’12.

That's according to history professor David Stefancic, whose expertise includes Russia. His opinion piece appears on the History News Network website.
