Belles Tie for Thirteenth at DePauw Small College Classic

CLAYTON, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished in a tie for thirteenth place at the 2014 DePauw Small College Classic.

Washington University in St. Louis won the team title after a 318 on Sunday gave the Bears a two-day score of 641. Carthage finished second with a 645, and Wittenberg was third with a 647. Four players tied for tournament medalist honors with scores of 156.

The Belles had a two-day team score of 721 after shooting a 361 on Sunday to tie fellow MIAA member Olivet for thirteenth place. Janice Heffernan continued to lead the Belles while shooting an 87 to finish tied for 29th overall. Courtney Carlson had the team's second-lowest score on Sunday with an 89 to finish tied for 67th.

Ali Mahoney had a 91 on day two to finish with a 181 for the tournament and a share of 60th place individually. Rachel Kim wrapped up the team score with a 94 (t-70th). Katie Zielinski was the fifth scoring-eligible golfer for Saint Mary's and shot a 96 while finishing 77th.

Kaitlyn Cartone had an 86 on Sunday to finish 65th while playing as an individual in the tournament.

The Belles kick off conference play this fall when they host the first MIAA Jamboree on Wednesday, September 24 at Blackthorn Golf Club starting at 1:00 p.m.
