March 8, 2011 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—The Saint Mary’s College Center for Spirituality announces that the 26th Annual Madeleva Lecture speaker is Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, William F. Cole Professor of Christian Theology and Spirituality at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Kwok’s lecture is entitled, “The Future of Interfaith Dialogue” and will focus on religious pluralism.

"We are pleased that Dr. Kwok has accepted our invitation to speak on such a timely topic.  The current world situation demands that we address issues related to dialogue with other faiths," said Sister Kathleen Dolphin, PBVM, director of the Center for Spirituality.  "She surely will add to the list of influential women scholars who have delivered the annual Madeleva Lecture."

Dr. Kwok, who earned her doctorate at Harvard University and has been awarded several honorary doctorates, is an internationally known scholar and a pioneer in Asian feminist theology and postcolonial theology. She has published extensively in feminist theology, biblical hermeneutics, and postcolonial criticism. Dr. Kwok is the coeditor of two volumes Off the Menu: Asian and Asian North American Women's Religion and Theology (Westminster) and Empire and the Christian Tradition: New Readings of Classical Theologians (Fortress). She has played leadership roles in the American Academy of Religion, the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), and the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning. She has spoken at the House of Bishops conference and at ATS workshops, as well as delivered lectures across the United States, Asia, and Europe.

The Madeleva Lecture Series is named after the legendary Sister Madeleva Wolff, CSC, president of Saint Mary's College from 1934 to 1961. The 2011 Madeleva Lecture will be held on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Carroll Auditorium in Madeleva Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
