Belles Claim First Place at Second MIAA NCAA Qualifying Round

GRANGER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team turned in a team score of 327 at Knollwood Country Club to win the second of three MIAA NCAA automatic qualifier playoff rounds.

The Belles finished 18 strokes ahead of second place Olivet. Hope placed third with a score of 347, and Alma was fourth with a 355. The score combined with last Friday's score give Saint Mary's a 38-stroke lead going into Saturday's final round. The team with the lowest cumulative stroke total after the three rounds will receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2018 Division III National Championship Tournament.

Saint Mary's freshman Hunter Kehoe was the medalist with a 78 on Friday. Kehoe had ten pars, a birdie, and had the best par four scoring round of the day among all players in the field. Classmate Summer Stillson was tied for second place overall after turning in a 79. Stillson carded 11 pars and was the second-best scoring of the round on both par four and par five holes.

Taylor Kehoe posted an 81 to finish with a share of fourth place. The junior had seven pars, a round-best two birdies, and was tied for the second-best par five scoring of the day. Courtney Quinlan wrapped up the team score with an 89 to tie for tenth place. Quinlan turned in a birdie, six pars, and was three-over on par three holes for the round.

Kelsey Conkright was the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup and shot a 92 to finish tied for 15th place. Conkright tallied four pars and was four-over in par three scoring on the day.

The third and final MIAA NCAA automatic qualifier round begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Knollwood Country Club.
