NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team won a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-20) conference match against Alma on Friday night.
Holding on to a 6-5 lead in the opening set, the Belles blew things wide open with an 11-4 run to gain a 17-9 edge over the visiting Scots. That stretch saw Saint Mary's win points with kills, blocks, aces, and a few miscues by Alma. Audrey Shannon and Marielle Corbett each had an ace while five different Belles put down a kill. The lead was too much for the Scots to overcome despite a late run in the set as the Belles took the opening frame 25-18.
Saint Mary's won the first seven points and pushed the lead to 14-2 in the second set as the Belles never looked back in the stanza. The home side had just one hitting error in the set. Audrey Shannon picked up 13 digs in the second set alone while Marielle Corbett and Nicole Lukens each tallied four kills as the Belles went up two sets to none with the 25-11 win.
The third set started out much like the first two sets in that the Belles were able to establish an early lead against the Scots. With the score at 7-5, Saint Mary's distanced themselves from Alma by winning 12 of the next 20 points for an 19-13 edge. The Scots hit a hot stretch late in the set and pulled within four points at 20-16, 21-17, and 24-20. Rachel Bonek put the match away with a kill on the next point for the 25-20 set win.

Morgan VanderWey led all players with 34 assists and two aces, and Audrey Shannon had a match-high 22 digs. Each of the six non-libero starters for the Belles had at least one block in the match.
The Belles (9-7, 5-4 MIAA) turn right around and travel to Kalamazoo for a 4:00 p.m. match tomorrow afternoon.
