South Bend Chamber Singers Auditions

The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS), the region’s premier vocal chamber ensemble, announces auditions for experienced singers from northern Indiana and southern Michigan for its 24th concert series, 2012-13. Singers should bring a prepared solo and they will be tested on sight-reading and aural abilities. An accompanist will be provided. Nancy Menk, professor of music at Saint Mary’s College and the ensemble’s music director, will conduct the auditions, which will be held Sunday-Friday, August 26-31 in room 309 of Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College. 2012-13 SBCS concerts:

  • On December 16, SBCS will present Christmas at Loretto, featuring new music for the season performed in a great acoustical space of Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s. Repertoire will include the world premiere of a new work by British composer Bob Chilcott. There will be a preview of the concert on December 15 at Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, Michigan.
  • On March 3, SBCS will be joined by the Euclid String Quartet to present Singing Up a Storm! (meteorological music), featuring the world premiere of a new work by American composer Frank Ferko for choir and string quartet. This concert also features the Chamber Children’s Choir and narration by WNDU-TV weatherman Gary Sieber.
     
  • On April 6, SBCS will join with several choirs from the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College to perform Benjamin Britten’s fantastic War Requiem with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
