Constitution Day to be Celebrated

Date: Monday, September 19, 2011

Time: Noon

Place: Welsh Parlor, Haggar College Center

Description: Constitution Day commemorates September 17, 1787, the day that the Constitutional Convention completed its work on the United States Constitution. Each year around September 17, Saint Mary’s College hosts a lecture and panel discussion reflecting on the history and ideals of that landmark document. This year, the College marks the occasion with a panel presentation, titled "Constitutional Tensions:  Negotiating Consensus and Controversy in the 21st Century."  This year's panel presents three Saint Mary's scholars addressing a constitutional issue of their choosing: Professor Patrick Pierce, Political Science, Professor Bill Svelmoe, History, and Librarian Catherine Pellegrino.  Each panelist will provide a unique perspective on the role of the Constitution in our lives, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Admission: Free

This event is sponsored by the Center for Academic Innovation. Coordinated by Michael Kramer, Chair of the Department of Communication Studies, Dance, & Theatre.
