Sister Miriam André was born in Alexandria VA to the late Edward V. Williams and Elizabeth Toomey Williams. She had two sisters, Kitty and Mary Louise Williams, both of whom are deceased. Sister is survived by niece, Hope Warren and cousins, Sister Mary Corebett and Betty Miller. Sister’s many friends will miss her. Before entering the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister Miriam André worked as a Research Clerk for the International Association of Machinists. Sister also was a graduate of Dunbarton College in Washington DC. She also holds an under-graduate degree from Saint Mary's College. She entered the Congregation in 1950 and taught business courses in senior high schools in Maryland, New York, Texas and Washington DC. Sister was principal at St. Patrick’s Academy, Washington, DC. She then was accountant for 3 years until she was appointed religious superior in the Eastern Region and held that office for 10 years. In 1981 Sister returned to teaching and was admissions director and guidance counselor at the Academy of the Holy Cross, Kensington MD until 2005 when she came to Saint Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame IN. Sister was active in the ministry of prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556.
