Sister Redempta was a self-effacing religious who never sought to be recognized but worked quietly and efficiently in the background. For over 40 years she served in dietary duties and was charged with the preparation of the priests' meals. Many of us remember her scurrying around the big kitchen getting all of the containers ready for the postulant who was assigned to carry the carefully prepared tray over to Sister Eileen Marie in the priests' house for the three meals each day. Sister Redempta was meticulous in her work and dedicated to the task at hand.
Sister was the second of 14 children in the Lengerich family; her sister, Sister Eymardine, who died in January, was the sixth. They were both devoted to family and to the community and had a deep faith that directed their lives. It was beautiful to see how supporting and loving they were to each other during their retirement years here at Saint Mary's. They are now together for eternity. May Sister Redempta rest in peace.
