Sister Eileen Malloy, CSC
( - March 23, 2009)
Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on March 23, 2009 in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Sister Eileen, who had been undergoing cancer treatment and lived alone, was found in her apartment by concerned parish staff when she did not arrive for a parish function.
Sister Eileen had served at St. Patrick Parish in Missouri Valley since 1998 as director of religious education. Prior to that, she was associate director of vocations for the Diocese of Des Moines, Iowa, for seven years. Until she began her ministries in Iowa, Sister Eileen served in Holy Cross education ministries in elementary and high schools throughout the United States and in vocation ministry in the West.
Sister Eileen brought a joy and energy to her ministry. In an article written in the Des Moines diocesan paper, Sister Eileen is described as the “energizer bunny.” Despite what might be considered a debilitating cancer diagnosis in 2006, she kept going and going. The article further stated that “if the day ever comes that God would want to call Sister Eileen home to heaven, God would have to take her right in her tracks.” That is exactly what happened. Sister Eileen was at a parish function, came home to rest and went right into the arms of God.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated for Sister Eileen at St. Patrick Parish, Missouri Valley, Iowa, on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements at Saint Mary’s are as follows: Reception of the body at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, followed by the Mass of Resurrection and eulogy at 10:30 a.m. All of these ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto.
Please join us in prayer as we celebrate Sister Eileen’s life in Holy Cross.
