( - November 25, 2008)

Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on November 25, 2008.

Sister Catherine had been in poor health for a number of years but had her prayer life and deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist to sustain her. This was probably a natural development from her close relationship with Sister Ann Francis (Peach), deceased, who supported and helped her enter the congregation.

She loved to attend the community Mass every day at 11 o’clock and only missed when she was very ill. Even when she was no longer able to be present with the community she looked forward to receiving the Eucharist. When the Eucharistic minister arrived on the fourth floor to give Communion to the sisters she was alert and always anxious to receive her Lord. Even yesterday in the hospital she asked that her Office Book be brought to her; prayer was her lifeline to reality.

Sister’s ministry years were a combination of teacher and typist and she alternated assignments over the years using these two skills with about 20 years in each field. She also used her secretarial abilities to fill the position of librarian at various times in her career. Most of her years of ministry were spent in the East until health issues required her to come to Saint Mary’s in 1985. She contributed to the various ministries here at Saint Mary’s for as long as she was able, willing to be of service wherever she was needed.

She is now face-to-face with the Lord from whom she received her strength and who gave life to her spirit. May she rest in peace.

Funeral arrangement for Sister Catherine are as follows: Reception of the body on Monday, December 1, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. with the Mass of Resurrection and eulogy at 10:30 a.m. the same day.
