When friends of Sister Camilla are asked what they would like to be said of her, the first word that seems to come to mind is “long-suffering.” In a casual meeting with sister no one would ever guess that this would be true because she was always smiling and gracious to everyone. There was no hint of the pain that her years of acute arthritis caused her. She never complained but went about her apostolic life with eagerness and joy.
For much of her life she reached out to the poor and to the abused in order to offer any help she could. Her work with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and her dedication to ESL (English as a Second Language) attest to her devotedness to serve those who need a loving and helping hand.
During her last illness at Holy Cross Hospital, where she had ministered in the ESL program for many, many years, an overwhelming number of nurses, aides and friends were anxious to wish her well on her last journey. Sister was admitted to the hospital’s ICU unit on Friday, January 26, and then transferred to the Hospice Unit. Her sisters in Holy Cross stayed by her beside praying and offering loving support. Her pain is ended now and she rejoices with her Lord. May Sister Camilla rest in peace.
