Sister Susan Cush, CSC
(June 22, 1934 - July 15, 2011)
Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on July 15, 2011 in Saint Mary's Convent.
Word has been received of the death of Sister Susan Cush who died at 11:25 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011, in Saint Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana.
Sister Sue was a woman of outstanding courage and remarkable empathy. For 14 years she fought her personal battle with cancer, and because of this struggle she was able to offer support and sage counsel to others who found this disease their nemesis.
Her 22 years of teaching and 30 years in healthcare facilities were rich and fruitful because she was always overly generous with her time and commitment to each ministry. As a classroom teacher she had the reputation of being strict but always fair. To teenagers this quality made Sister Sue a favorite. When her ministry changed from teaching to health care, she brought that same dedication and objectivity to her various roles. Whether she was working on an administrative level or one-on-one with a patient, she dealt with everyone equally in loving compassion. Along the way she formed many long-lasting friendships with those she helped.
She lived the spiritual and corporal works of mercy in her own life, and these gifts flowed naturally into her interaction with those whom she served. Her counseling skills are legendary, particularly in responding to the anxiety of cancer patients who came to the Saint Joseph Cancer Institute where her presence and advocacy brought consolation to many.
Sister Sue knew well what it meant to be a friend, and those who could claim that relationship were blessed with loyalty, forthrightness and love -- a priceless gift.
May Sister Sue rest in peace.
