We believe that nothing replaces a direct connection to talented faculty. It’s why our classes are small and taught only by professors. In this environment, students are highly engaged in discussions, involved in comprehensive research, and are encouraged to ask questions. Coupled with strong academic programs that develop critical thinking and communication skills, we ensure every student is well prepared to excel in her career and in life.

Success is in her future
We're proud to share the success of our graduates because it's the culmination of both our efforts and hers. Our alumnae are so well prepared that within one year of graduation, 95 percent report working full-time, being enrolled in graduate school, or participating full-time in service work. In fact more than twice as many Saint Mary’s students go on to graduate schools as the national average of colleges and universities. And in the workplace, Saint Mary's women make annual salaries an average of 30 percent higher than graduates of Indiana public universities.
Achieving Great Things
At Saint Mary's, you learn and grow in your interests. You realize your dreams and you're empowered to follow them. Political science major London Lamar '13 is chasing her dream in Memphis, Tennessee, currently working as a policy associate at SISTERREACH.
Preparing her career path
We know that hands-on research and real-life experience make a difference. So our faculty, curriculum, services help to make both happen. At Saint Mary’s, 100 percent of our students complete a comprehensive research project, capstone, or senior portfolio as part of her graduation requirements. Compared to the national average of 46 percent, our students gain valuable experience through this culminating project. Plus 83 percent of seniors report having gained experience in an internship, co-op, field-experience, student teaching, or clinical placement compared to just 50 percent of seniors nationally.
Biology professor Reena Lamichhane Khadka and two students, Adriana Ledesma '16 and Meghan Cusack '16 talk about their summer research testing contaminated water and how the experience has enhanced their education.

Direct connection to professors and peers
Our classes are intimate learning environments where professors fully engage our students in discussions, experimentation, and development of skills. There’s no getting lost in large lecture halls at Saint Mary’s. Here, faculty call on students by name and really get to know each one. That direct connection leads to higher class participation, enhanced communication skills, and a level of interaction simply not found at most other institutions.

“I have been told more times than I can count how impressed potential schools and employers have been with the interpersonal skills I gained at Saint Mary’s.”
