ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team won an 8-1 conference contest against Trine on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles took wins in each of the three doubles flights to get started on Saturday. Audrey Kiefer and Shannon Elliott teamed up for an 8-2 win at two doubles while Margaret Faller and Andrea Fetters also were 8-2 winners at three doubles. Mary Catherine Faller and Kayle Sexton, meanwhile, topped their Trine counterparts by an 8-3 score at one doubles to give the Belles all three flights.
Saint Mary's went on to win five of the six singles matches on the day. Andrea Fetters won a 6-1, 6-0 match at number five singles. Jackie Kjolhede dropped just two games on her way to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at three singles. Shannon Elliott earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision at four singles.
Audrey Kiefer snagged a 6-2, 6-2 win at six singles. Kayle Sexton won in a super tiebreaker by 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) scores on Saturday. Mary Catherine Faller ended on the wrong side of a 6-1, 6-0 final in the one singles match of the afternoon.
The Belles (6-3, 2-0 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 1 for a 4:00 p.m. makeup of last week's originally scheduled match.
