SOLD OUT Michelle Alexander, Author of “The New Jim Crow," to Speak ... January 1, 2015 Saint Mary’s College is proud to host Michelle Alexander, author of the best-selling book “The New Jim Crow,” on Monday, February 9 at 7 p.m. in O'Laughlin Auditorium. Her book, published in 2010, explores cultural biases that many say still exist and how segregation has been replaced by mass incarceration. Her lecture, titled “Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,” will discuss racial injustice in the American legal system. The lecture is free and open to the public. World Cinema Festival Films Announced January 1, 2015 The Saint Mary’s College Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) will host the World Cinema Festival, Tuesday, Jan. 27 through Thursday, Jan. 29. This annual event, which is free and open to the public, will feature three films in the original language with English subtitles over the course of three nights. Each will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Vander Vennet Theatre on the ground level of the Student Center.

“Love Your Body Week” Offers Its Simple Message for 5th Consecutiv... January 1, 2015 Saint Mary’s College students will host Love Your Body Week on campus next week. The student-organized week at this women’s college includes talks and activities to encourage young women to see themselves in a positive light. This is the 5th consecutive year for the event. Many of the events are open the public and all are free to attend.

Saint Mary’s College to Start 3 Graduate Programs January 1, 2015 With the start of each New Year, people often make resolutions for self-improvement, which could include working toward an advanced degree. In 2015, Saint Mary’s College will offer three in-demand graduate programs that will elevate students’ professional skills and earning potentials while preparing them to make a difference in the world, as the school has since 1844. The graduate programs are a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, a Master of Science in Data Science, and a Master of Science in Speech Pathology.

SPARK is intended to assist local under-resourced, high-potential female entrepreneurs and artists to “spark” or launch successful businesses. Candidates must apply in person at a mandatory 2-hour orientation and screening session at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 10 in room 145 of Spes Unica Hall.
